Thank you for letting us be part of Teacher Appreciation Week!
In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, the Parent Faculty Association at Franklin Elementary School donated $2,000 to NHCO. This generous gift was made in honor of the school’s teachers and staff.
Normally during Teacher Appreciation Week, they celebrate with a catered lunch and other gifts, using money collected by the PFA. But these aren’t normal times. Kelly Ross, co-president of the PFA, and other members of the group had to make alternative plans to mark the occasion.
“We were brainstorming with our principal. How can we show the teachers how much we appreciate them in these times?” Kelly remembered.
The principal talked with the teachers, who expressed that they understand they’re appreciated. They also noted that not everybody has what they need during this crisis. The teachers then asked for the funds to be donated to a food bank.
“We’re so lucky to have teachers like that,” Kelly added. “A lot of us in the Frankin Elementary School community have personal relationships with North Hills Community Outreach.”
Many of the teachers and PFA members have volunteered at our food pantries, and some have held food collections. NHCO was a familiar and easy choice for the donation.
“I think a lot of people who haven’t experienced food insecurity are for the first time. It’s almost like a call to action. It’s important to provide for when you can,” Kelly remarked.
All of us at North Hills Community Outreach deeply appreciate all of you, and thank you for letting us be part of your Teacher Appreciation Week!
