FAQ - Common Questions and Answers

Can I donate clothing, furniture or other household items?
NHCO is not able to accept donations of clothing, furniture or other household items. We suggest donating these items to one of the following organizations that supports those that NHCO serves:

For furniture:
Restore
The Blessing Board
Salvation Army

For Clothing and other household items:
Treasure House
House of Thrift
Community Thrift Center

Can I donate prepared food?
NHCO is not authorized to accept and serve prepared food through our food pantry. We suggest contacting 412 Food Rescue, or a local homeless shelter or soup kitchen.

Can I donate expired food?
NHCO cannot accept expired food items to distribute at our food pantry. NHCO prides itself on being able to offer those we serve with quality items in order to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

Can I donate fresh produce from my garden?
NHCO is happy to accept fresh produce and seeds from your home garden! We just ask that anything you donate be properly labeled so those we serve know what they are receiving.

Can I donate used items for a sharing project?
We request new items for all of our Sharing Projects. NHCO prides itself on being able to offer those we serve with quality items in order to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

Can my child volunteer at NHCO?
NHCO does offer volunteer opportunities that may be suitable for those under the age of 18. We do ask that anyone under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult when volunteering.

Are there times outside of NHCO’s normal business hours that I can drop off a donation?
Our Allison Park location (1975 Ferguson Rd. Allison Park, PA 15101) hosts an Open House on the first Saturday of every month from 9am to Noon. Donations are accepted at this time. We can also make special arrangements if need be, you just need to call our office to arrange for them.

Do you help with housing?
NHCO is not a housing organization. What we can assist with is backed rent or security deposit. We are unable to locate housing.

Do you have cars or sell cheap cars? 
NHCO does not sell cars. Our Transportation Program may be able to assist with the purchase of a reliable vehicle. Please visit; NHCO.org/Transportation-Assistance for more information on how we can help with transportation.
