Pathways Program helps people in McKees Rocks achieve goals

There’s a pathway in McKees Rocks that helps individuals and families achieve stability and self-reliance. It’s free to those looking to reach personal goals.

Working inside the Sto-Rox Community Resource Center, Emily Nordquist guides individuals through The Pathways Program, a service offered through North Hills Community Outreach. Emily works with people over time to help them achieve long lasting results that will enrich their lives.

The program helps individuals and families:Achieve financial independenceMaintain housing stabilityFind a job or a better jobContinue educationand so much more!

Emily helps individuals identify personal goals and works with them to create an action plan. During regularly scheduled meetings, she’ll support and encourage people while locating services and resources that will benefit them. Individuals will also have an opportunity to learn budgeting skills, get job seeking assistance and gain knowledge in other areas that will help them succeed.

The program is free to those who meet certain income requirements. Individuals can stay for as long as it takes to reach their goals.

“Pathways is a powerful approach because it is led by the person being served. They’re the expert in their life so it only makes sense for the program to be flexible to meet needs on the person’s own terms. Pathways is about using skills and strength people have to help them get to where they’re going,” Emily said.

Growing up in rural central Pennsylvania, Emily developed a love for nature and hiking. She earned an English degree from Edinboro University, then spent two years with Americorps, an organization that promotes public service and helping others. She served with charter schools in Denver and Pittsburgh, and discovered that she has a passion for helping others.  She earned a Masters Degree in Social Work from Pitt.

Emily has been leading The Pathways Program in McKees Rocks since Spring 2019.

“You work with people one on one. It lets you work together to get you where you’d like to be,” Emily added. “Pathways is about using the skills and strength people have to help them get to where they are going.”
