“My passion in life is to help all people thrive.” — Meet NHCO's Executive Director, Scott Shaffer

I am honored to introduce myself as the next Executive Director of NHCO. My name is Scott Shaffer, and for the past eight years I have served as the Lead Pastor of Faith United Methodist Church in Fox Chapel and Executive Director for Roots of Faith in Sharpsburg, one of NHCO’s partner organizations that works to unite people across differences of race, class and geography to build community and alleviate poverty.

Through NHCO’s partnership with Roots of Faith, I have seen firsthand how vital NHCO’s programs are in providing a social safety net for people experiencing crisis and hardship in our community. I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to help steward NHCO’s vital programs and partnerships, while developing new strategies to enact NHCO’s vision of northern Allegheny County as a sharing community where no one needs to be cold, hungry or alone.

At Roots of Faith, we regularly referred community members to NHCO to receive assistance with a wide variety of needs – from senior transportation and tax preparation to utility assistance and the Pathways program. If we couldn’t meet someone’s needs, we knew that NHCO could. NHCO staff and board members have cultivated a network of partnerships that brings together clients, volunteers and donors from diverse walks of life to transform not just individual lives, but the entire community for good.

I cannot imagine a nonprofit that is a better fit for my passion, skills and experience than NHCO. The most meaningful moments of my life have involved bringing people together from diverse backgrounds into transformative relationships. As the next Executive Director of NHCO I will have the opportunity to facilitate these life-changing connections between clients, donors, volunteers and staff every day. NHCO is truly an organization after my own heart.

Frederick Buechner once said that “your vocation in life is where your greatest joy meets the world’s greatest need.” My passion in life is to help all people thrive. As the next Executive Director of NHCO I will have the opportunity to help clients thrive by overcoming barriers to achieving their goals; to help donors and volunteers thrive with opportunities to give and serve; and to help staff and board members thrive as they provide leadership for this life-changing work. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as NHCO’s Executive Director, so that together we can help everyone in northern Allegheny County to thrive!
