Overview
The Teen Leadership Coalition (TLC) is a group of up to 14 teenage community members dedicated to helping North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) address the needs of people in crisis, hardship, and poverty in Northern Allegheny County. Members increase awareness of NHCO’s programs, expand volunteer outreach, and assist in fundraising efforts. This opportunity helps Members build their resumes, grow their networks, and learn about Nonprofit Board Governance.
Members are students within NHCO’s service area, Grades 7 through 12, who want to serve people in their community. Eligible districts include Allegheny Valley, Avonworth, Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel, Hampton, Highlands, North Allegheny, North Hills, Northgate, Pine-Richland, Quaker Valley, and Shaler.
Commitment
Time
Members commit to attending at least 4 out of the 6 yearly meetings. Reoccurring meeting times vary year to year, and may be held virtually or in-person, but will always occur outside of school hours.
Service
Members commit to hold or support at least one Sharing Projects collection at their respective school each school year. These can be completed independently or in collaboration with Members at the same school. Collection needs rotate on a near-monthly basis. Members commit to one volunteer day (Garden, Pantry, Fundraiser, etc) or tabling opportunity per school year. Volunteer needs vary and opportunities are shared during scheduled meetings.
Time spent in meetings and completing direct service count towards Community Service hours. NHCO will provide documentation of each Member’s total hours at the end of each school year. Members can also request documentation at any time.
