Our Vision
Northern Allegheny County is a sharing community where no one is cold, hungry or alone.
Our Core Values
- Faith: Recognizing the love of God for everyone
- Compassion: Treating all individuals with dignity, understanding and caring
- Empowerment: Fostering self-sufficiency and improved quality of life
- Stewardship: Managing our resources in a trustworthy and responsible manner for the good of the community
A Brief History
In 1986, when flooding ravaged portions of the North
Hills, local religious and community leaders worked together to
help flood victims. This effort mobilized the community into action
so that resources offered by congregations, businesses, civic groups
and individuals were directed to the affected families. As a result,
North Hills Community Outreach was incorporated in 1987 as an organization
of People Helping People. NHCO is not a United Way partner agency but can receive donations
through Contributor's Choice. Our code is 2357.
Services Offered
NHCO's services include two food pantries, utility
assistance, emergency
financial help, Family Savings Accounts, college scholarships for nontraditional adults, support groups, individualized
computer and employment training, tobacco use prevention and cessation,
Faith in Action volunteer caregiving, transportation, youth leadership,
a partnership with Community Auto, and much more!
