NHCO to host Hunger Awareness Experience Sept 28, 6-8pm
September is Hunger Action Month, and North Hills Community Outreach is hosting a Hunger Awareness Experience open house in the food pantry at its main office in Hampton, 1975 Ferguson Road, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Friday, September 28.
Participants can experience first-hand the tough choices 1,599,520 hungry Pennsylvanians face by taking on the identity of a person in poverty and the problems that person faces. Then, they can walk in that person’s shoes by “shopping” in the pantry. Participants can learn about the needs and challenges of local people facing hunger, what food insecurity means, how food pantries help the community and more.
NHCO’s food pantry coordinator, a registered dietitian, will discuss NHCO’s unique approach to providing healthy foods and nutrition education to families in need.
Refreshments will include vegetables from NHCO’s organic garden, which grows nearly 5,000 pounds of organic produce annually for NHCO’s three food pantries.
This event is free, and is great for families, youth groups, and more. Please park in the upper lot and walk down the back driveway to the pantry. For more information, contact Erica Cochran at email@example.com or 412-408-3830 extension 3213.
