**Low-Income Households Invited to Apply for Appliance Assistance**
North Hills Community Outreach and The Society of St. Vincent DePaul have received funding from The NeighborAid Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide new energy-efficient appliances for low-income families in need. The program gives special focus to those seeking assistance for the first time and homeowners who are struggling to meet mortgage payments.
To qualify, families must need to replace a nonworking appliance. Priority is given for refrigerators, ranges and hot water heaters, but washers and dryers may be considered on a case by case basis. Applicants must live in northern Allegheny County or in the Northside Pittsburgh zip codes of 15212, 15214 or 15233. Their household income cannot exceed 150% of the federal poverty level; exceptions may be made if the family is experiencing a hardship such as catastrophic illness, fire loss or other critical issue. Participants are expected to contribute $20-$60 toward the cost of a new appliance. Participants receive approved new appliances from a designated appliance store and are not charged for delivery and installation.
Funds remain to purchase approximately 100 more appliances, with a limit of one appliance per family. To apply, contact NHCO at 412-487-6316, option 1, x3140 (northern Allegheny County) or St. Vincent DePaul at 412-321-1071, x205 (Northside zip codes).
