DONATE A Car or VEHICLE to NHCO and HELP NEIGHBORS IN NEED
PLEASE NOTE: If you have a vehicle that was ruined in recent flooding, we can accept that vehicle as long as you have a title. Please note in the online donation form that the vehicle was flooded.
Our program accepts car, truck, rv, boat, van, motorcycle, trailer donations
You can donate a vehicle and help hundreds of families a year through North Hills Community Outreach’s Transportation Assistance program!* Your donation can change lives!
(This was formerly called Community Auto. Please note that as of November 20, 2017, NHCO is no longer affiliated with Community Auto.)
Do you have a car, fleet car, truck, van, recreational vehicle (RV), motorcycle, dirt bike, tractor, boat or trailer that you don’t need or want? Donate it to NHCO ! Pickup or towing is free and the process is free and simple!
Visit NHCO’s donation page on Vehicles for Charity or call 412-408-3830 ext 3225 for more information. Our charity partners at Vehicles for Charity sell your car at auction to the highest bidder, and NHCO receives 80% of the proceeds after fees.
NHCO uses 100% of the funds it receives from the sale of vehicles to help people with transportation needs. Transportation costs can include emergency vehicle repairs, CONNECT cards and ride share programs, gas cards, car seats, limited matching funds to purchase a car to get to work, and more.
Why donate your vehicle to NHCO’s Transportation Assistance program?
NHCO uses the funds from the sale of your vehicle to help people in your community meet and overcome transportation challenges, and access jobs, critical appointments and child care.
Due to lack of public transit, job loss, low-paying jobs and other reasons, many people in suburban communities lack affordable or reliable transportation. In fact, of the many reasons people report they came to North Hills Community Outreach for help, transportation is always within the top three!
As a result, lack of reliable, affordable transportation limits access to:
- certain jobs, therefore limiting income
- medical appointments
- to a variety of healthy food options — in many communities, there are no grocery stores
- child care such as day cares and pre-schools
- post-secondary education options such as college and trade schools
- critical appointments and job interviews
- children’s school activities, worship or other community involvement
Frequently Asked Questions
How does my car donation help someone?
Our charity partner, Vehicles for Charity, sells your car at auction to the highest bidder. NHCO receives the majority of the funds, which are used to help low-income people in northern Allegheny County north of the city of Pittsburgh with costs associated with transportation through our newly expanded Transportation Assistance program.
As funds allow, we can help people with transportation costs. These costs include CONNECT cards and ride share, emergency vehicle repairs, gas cards, car seats, limited matching funds to purchase a car to get to work, and more. For more details, visit our Transportation Assistance program page.
The remaining funds from the sale of your vehicle go to our nonprofit charity partner, Vehicles for Charity, which helps other nonprofits sell cars, too.
Ultimately, your car donation can help multiple families in need!
Hasn’t NHCO always accepted donated cars?
Yes! Our program was called Community Auto. (Please note, NHCO is no longer affiliated with Community Auto.) We have accepted vehicles since 2005. We recently changed the name to reflect our expanded Transportation Assistance services, but the car donation process is still easy and hassle-free. With these expanded services, we can now help even more low-income people with their transportation needs! For more information on how we can help, please visit our Transportation Assistance program page.
Can I get a tax deduction when I donate my vehicle?
