Community Auto
Makes Vehicle Ownership a Reality for Those in Hardship

Community Auto's 2006-07 Annual Report.
Transportation can be a major hurdle for families in hardship and
poverty. Without reliable and safe transportation, it can be difficult,
if not impossible, to acquire and maintain employment. NHCO provides
bus passes for some individuals with employment needs, but this
is usually just a temporary solution.
NHCO is partnering with Community Auto to make
vehicle ownership affordable to low-income individuals and families
experiencing economic hardship so they have a safe and reliable
means of transportation for getting to work and to meet other family
transportation needs. NHCO performs "back office" support
in finances, human resources, volunteer management and marketing
so that Community Auto can focus its efforts on helping those in
need.
Community Auto partners with NHCO, businesses, religious organizations
and other nonprofits and community groups to identify individuals
and families in need of affordable, reliable vehicles. Community
Auto also participates with the Department of Public Welfare's Vehicle
Grant Program, which can pay all or part of the vehicle's cost.
A program at Family Services of Western PA can provide a loan.

What makes us special? Many local agencies accept
donated vehicles. However, Community Auto is the ONLY organization
that puts those vehicles back into the hands of local families who
need them. Purchasers receive their cars with a AAA membership,
a 3 month/3,500 mile warranty and a full tank of gas!
Benefits for the donor: We will do our best to
match your donation with a family who needs a car. However, not
all vehicles will be suitable for a low-income family to maintain,
and those cars will either be scrapped or sold at auction. No
matter what becomes of your donation, you may deduct the fair market
value (a.k.a. Kelley
Blue Book) of your vehicle!
Want to donate your vehicle? Donors may drop off
the car by appointment or request a pick-up. When calling to inquire
about donating a car, please be prepared to provide the year, make
and model, as well as the approximate mileage and general condition.
