NHCO partners with local colleges and universities to provide meaningful internship and field learning experiences for students pursuing a variety of degrees. Our strongest partnership is with the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work.
NHCO coordinates with the student intern, his/her faculty advisor and the school’s internship program office to ensure that internship procedures are followed and program requirements are fulfilled. NHCO works with each student to create a weekly work schedule to meet the requirements of the internship program as well as NHCO’s current program and project needs. NHCO offices are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and evenings and weekends as needed.
All internships are unpaid, however interns are reimbursed for work-related travel expenses and they get to work with great people and make a true difference for their neighbors in need.
NHCO has several special opportunities for senior citizens.
The Senior Training and Employment Program provides training and job readiness assistance to help those with limited employment prospects get jobs.
Senior Companions help vulnerable seniors by visiting them in their homes.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program connects volunteers with service opportunities in their communities that match their skills and availability.
