North Hills Community Outreach is excited to announce a new friend raiser and fund raiser — Caroling for Our Community!
The tradition of holiday caroling goes back to the 19th century during the Victorian era. Carolers went door-to-door wishing blessings and goodwill, while the wealthy people would give them gifts, such as “figgie pudding.” Over time, this popular holiday activity evolved to collecting for charity, or just exchanging goodwill through the neighborhoods. In keeping with this tradition, North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) is hosting Caroling for Our Community, and we would like members of your group, choir, chorus or organization to participate.
Caroling in Our Community will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017, from noon to 7 pm at The Block Northway. The goal is to hold a fun and unique event that rallies the community to help support northern Allegheny County neighbors in need, while reviving the tradition of holiday caroling. Nine vocal groups, of no more than 25 members each, will be chosen to perform 30-to-40-minute sets of songs for the holidays. Each group member is asked to raise $25 or more to help NHCO continue to provide services to families facing crisis, hardship and poverty.
In an effort to keep it traditional, all performances will be acoustic or acapella. There will be a 10-minute buffer time after each group’s performance to allow adequate time for the transition between acts. Therefore, if the group’s instruments require a lengthy time to set up, then please keep the number of these instruments, or props, to a minimum.
Participating groups will be listed in NHCO’s and The Block Northway’s promotional efforts, which include fliers, listings in local publications and social media. All participating groups will receive Welcome Packets that include fundraising materials. These packets will be emailed to the group’s contact person, who will be responsible for forwarding to each of that group’s members.
Group submission deadline is 4 pm on Thursday, October 26, 2017. Since we can only feature nine vocal groups, the earlier you send your submission, the better chance you have to be one of these nine. Please complete the submission form and submit it to Harriet Klatte at email@example.com . If you have questions, please email Harriet or call her at 412-408-3830 x 3204.
We hope that your group will participate. We’d love to hear you raise your voices in song for our community.
